It seems now that Himantayon.com was a short-lived phenomenon. Founders Himan and Tayon announced yesterday, April 1st, that they were closing down the website.

“We simply don’t have time anymore,” explained Himan. “It has become bigger than us.”

Avid Himantayon.com supporters responded by flooding the site with protests.

The most adamant of the lot, Mominator, even called Himan “a spawn of Satan”.

“Himan, you have GOT to be kidding,” Mominator ranted. “I can’t believe you’d do that to all your loyal supporters. I never thought you were capable of such evil… you spawn of Satan!!!”

A lot of readers expressed sadness and regret at the loss, saying that Himantayon.com has become a part of their daily routine.

“Dili ko kadawat,” wailed Kyut.

“Nanimbawt ako balahibo,” admitted Kinovservant.

“Unsaon na lang among adlaw ani…back to boring,” Aninipot complained.

“ATAY! I NEVER SAW THIS COMING!” Tadsz wrote in all caps.

Some, like reader Beverly, emphasized their disapproval by extending the word “No” with several succeeding “oooooooos”.

Jaybee, another Himantayon.com regular, dubbed the site a part of “pop culture phenomenon” and begged the founders to seek other options.

In the midst of all these protests, however, Himan and Tayon remained silent.

At 6:50 last night, Himan broke his silence to say simply, “This website will shut down at the stroke of midnight. It has been a wonderful ride.”

Sure enough, at a few minutes past midnight on April 2nd, 2008, Himantayon.com disappeared from the World Wide Web.

In lieu of the hilarious posts and the equally riotous comments which have populated the website for exactly a year, an Internal Server Error message was displayed.

“April fools! Please?!” reader Klang wrote before the website completely shut down.

In response, Himan and Tayon were heard saying, “Brayta gyud sa mga taga-Himantayon oi! April Fools!”

And the two founders, giddy with mirth, cackled with laughter so evil that it chilled this writer’s bones.

Happy anniversary, Himan and Tayon. Long live Himantayon.com!
